Narbonne Goes to 28-0 With an 85-47 Victory

The Harbor City Narbonne girls’ basketball team continued its pursuit of a perfect season Wednesday night with an 85-47 victory over Van Nuys Grant in a City Championship Division quarterfinal at Narbonne.

Ebony Hoffman scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds and Loree Moore had 11 points, 10 assists and 10 steals for the top-seeded Lady Gauchos (28-0), ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today.

Chatsworth 44, South Gate 39--Ashley Shelton scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead the fifth-seeded Chancellors (20-5) to a City Championship Division quarterfinal victory at South Gate.

Crenshaw 69, Washington 62--Behind Trilena Amos’ game-high 30 points, the third-seeded Cougars (21-10) exacted revenge for a semifinal loss last season by defeating the Generals in a City Championship quarterfinal at Crenshaw.

Amos took charge in the third quarter as she scored 10 points to help the Cougars build a 10-point lead.

Washington pulled to within 63-60 on two free throws by Pepper Gooden with 51 seconds left, but Shante Watson and Afton Thompson broke loose for consecutive layups to put the game away.

Palisades 65, Gardena 29--April Freeney scored 21 points, Tricia Ewells scored 18 and Melissa Henderson had eight blocks for the second-seeded Dolphins (21-2) in the City Championship Division quarterfinal victory at Palisades.

Dorsey 52, Birmingham 46--Tanisha Bowick scored 21 points for the Dons in an Invitational quarterfinal victory at Birmingham.

Octavia Askew of Birmingham had 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists, but the Patriots were outscored, 9-2, in the final four minutes.

Ofalangi Mailangi scored 13 points for Birmingham (10-12), which tied the score, 44-44, midway through the fourth quarter.

SOUTHERN SECTION

Chino Hills Ayala 73, Palos Verdes Peninsula 30--Senior guard Candice Allen led the way for the top-seeded Bulldogs (24-4), scoring 22 points in the Division I-AA third-round victory at Ayala.

El Toro 60, Alhambra 39--Guiliana Mendiola scored 40 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for El Toro in the Division I-AA third-round victory at Alhambra.

Lynwood 65, Century 23--Willnett Crockett scored 12 points and Laconia Hatcher had eight for the second-seeded Knights in the I-AA third-round victory at Lynwood.

Anaheim Esperanza 54, Etiwanda 40--Kristin Peters scored 20 points to lead Esperanza to the I-AA third-round victory at home.

Cerritos 72, Ventura Buena 62--LaKiste Barkus scored 42 points and the Dons (20-10) defeated Buena in the Division I-A third-round victory at Cerritos.

Chino Don Lugo 69, Moreno Valley 65--Diana Taurasi scored 27 points to lead the Conquistadores (24-4) in the I-A third-round victory at Moreno Valley.

Fullerton Troy 82, Apple Valley 41--Alicia Komaki scored 23 points and Veronica Johns-Richardson had 18 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for Troy in the I-A third-round victory.

Brea Olinda 56, Pasadena 37--Chelsea Trotter scored 28 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the top-seeded Ladycats to the II-AA second-round victory at Brea Olinda.

Santa Margarita 66, Whittier California 52--Chaveughn Brown had 23 points and 15 rebounds for Santa Margarita in the Division II-AA second-round victory at home.

Redondo 60, Paso Robles 42--Ofa Tulikihihifo scored 20 points and had 14 rebounds for the third-seeded Sea Hawks (23-5) in a Division II-AA second-round victory at Paso Robles.

Bellflower 56, Cathedral City 35--Kourtney Hicks scored 27 points as the Buccaneers (19-7) won a second-round Division II-AA game at Bellflower.

Lakewood Artesia 55, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 33--Eterea Wong scored 19 points and Lindsay Thomas added 12 for Artesia (22-6) in the II-A quarterfinal at Los Altos.

Mission Hills Alemany 81, Pomona Ganesha 69--Veranda James scored 52 points for Ganesha, but she could not overcome top-seeded Alemany, which got 30 points from Kate Beckler in the III-AA quarterfinal victory at Ganesha.

Fullerton Rosary 64, Inglewood Morningside 47--Maggie Barnett scored 23 points for Rosary in the III-AA quarterfinal victory at Morningside.

Torrance Bishop Montgomery 62, Costa Mesa 31--Tamara Quinn scored 17 points and made three three-point baskets for the Knights (23-3) in a III-AA quarterfinal at Costa Mesa.

Morro Bay 50, Rosamond 26--The top-seeded and defending champion Pirates (18-6) got 16 points from Karena Bonds and 14 from Leeane Jensen in a IV-AA quarterfinal win at Rosamond.

Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 65, Twentynine Palms 53--Crystal Erwin scored 13 points for St. Paul (18-9), which overcame a 29-point performance by Nadia Clark to win the IV-AA quarterfinal at home.

Playa del Rey St. Bernard 74, Village Christian 33--Shannon Howell scored 22 points for St. Bernard (22-5) in the IV-A quarterfinal at St. Bernard.
