Sonora Stuns Third-Ranked Troy

Sonora beat Troy, the third-ranked team in Orange County, 47-42, on Friday night for its first Freeway League boys’ basketball victory of the season.

Travis Rogers scored all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter to help the host Raiders (6-15, 1-5 in league) outscore the Warriors in the final period, 20-12. Robert Abreu had eight points and eight assists for Sonora.

Mark Ahlberg scored 12 points for Troy (20-2, 5-1), which trailed by 10 at halftime but outscored Sonora in the third quarter, 15-2.

La Habra 70, Fullerton 56--Tristen Gadberry scored 22 points for host La Habra (12-10, 4-2). Fullerton is 14-4, 4-2.

Sunny Hills 67, Buena Park 54--Tony Gonzales, a 6-foot-4 freshman, had 23 points and 19 rebounds for visiting Sunny Hills (12-10, 3-3).

In the Empire League:

Loara 70, Kennedy 51--Wes Wardrop scored 19 points and Daniel Melton had 11 fourth-quarter points for Loara (15-7, 6-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 91, La Quinta 67--Jon James had 36 points and 14 rebounds and Will Montgomery had 23 points and five steals to help Bolsa Grande (18-5, 9-0) win its 12th consecutive game.

Garden Grove 62, Rancho Alamitos 56--Norman Smith had 15 points and 11 rebounds to help Garden Grove (5-16, 3-6) outscore Rancho Alamitos, 23-6, in the fourth quarter to overcome a 16-point deficit.

No. 2 Ocean View 95, Saddleback 48--Marques Crane scored 22 points for Ocean View (21-2, 5-0). Ismael Isais scored 25 points for Saddleback (4-16, 2-3).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 56, Brethren Christian 37--Jason Whieldon scored 15 of his 30 points in the second quarter for Orange Lutheran (17-4, 5-1).

Whittier Christian 58, Calvary Chapel 52 (OT)--Steven Zieman scored 15 points and Kevin Harris had five of his 10 points in overtime for Whittier Christian (8-14, 3-3).

Magnolia 71, No. 10 Brea Olinda 63--Scott Henry had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Stia Asoau scored 19 points for host Magnolia (18-4, 4-2). Jacob Davis had 23 rebounds for the Sentinels, who broke it open by holding Brea to six points in the third quarter.

Anaheim 66, Savanna 62 (OT)--Stephen Miller scored 10 of his 23 points in overtime after Nate Traynor made a three-pointer to force the extra period for visiting Anaheim (13-8, 3-3).

Valencia 53, Western 42--Emmanuel Ortega scored 27 points for Valencia (10-12, 4-1).
