Thousand Oaks La Reina 1, Ventura St. Bonaventure 0--Jenny Ortezsingled to left in the bottom of the seventh inning, driving in Sarah DiJulio for the winning run in the Division V championship game at Mayfair Park.
La Reina (24-4) won its fifth title.
DiJulio led off the inning with a sharp ground ball inches inside the foul line and off the glove of third baseman Debra Garvin. DiJulio was awarded second base when the ball rolled foul and into the La Reina dugout.
With a Regent runner in scoring position for only the second time in the game, St. Bonaventure ace Annie Marostica intentionally walked Mackenzie Vandergeest, who came into the game batting .566 with 37 runs batted in.
Tracey Clark’s groundout moved runners to second and third, before Marostica intentionally walked Kristen Ward, a .390 hitter, to get to Ortez, freshman batting .235.
