Ferguson Stepping Down as Girls’ Coach at Royal

Share

Bob Ferguson of Royal High said he will not coach the girls’ volleyball team next season, handing over control to his son, Travis, an assistant coach with the Highlander boys’ and girls’ teams.

Ferguson said he has not made a decision whether he will coach the boys’ team next season.

In 18 years as girls’ coach, Ferguson guided the Highlanders to six league titles and Southern Section championships in 1989 and 1998.

Ferguson said he will serve as an advisor for the girls’ program.

“I still feel like I can contribute, but somebody needs to take over that day-to-day grind,” he said. “Setting up schedules, practices, fund-raising takes time and effort.
