Showdown for Power Pitchers

Mater Dei’s Tia Bollinger and Fountain Valley’s Natalie King, the county’s two most dominant senior pitchers, are expected to face each other tonight in the first Orange County Coaches All-Star Classic. Bollinger and King finished 1-2 in strikeouts this season, and are likely to go the first three innings of the nine-inning game at Col. Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. Game time is 7 p.m. The park is located at the Irvine Civic Center at the corner of Harvard Road and Alton Parkway.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 5-17.

Teams were not selected based on traditional North-South boundaries. Instead, leagues were assigned to the National or American division based on strength, and players were selected from that talent pool of seniors. The Sunset League, for example, was assigned to the American division, and the Sea View League was assigned to the National.

Notably absent are Foothill players, who will instead be attending their team banquet after winning the Southern Section Division I title on Saturday. The South Coast League has a player on each team, San Clemente’s Ricci Lugo and Mission Viejo’s Ashley Fricks.
