Summer Basketball Starts Today

The summer high school basketball season begins today with Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Assn. tournaments for boys and girls.

Locally, Ocean View and Century high schools will host boys’ games, while girls’ play will be at the Brethren Christian Warrior Center in Cypress.

At Century today, Bolsa Grande and Canyon open at 3:15 p.m. The winner plays Mater Dei Saturday at 8:15 a.m., also at Century.

Other games today at Century include La Quinta vs. Chino Don Lugo at 4:15 p.m., Pomona Ganesha vs. Century at 5:15 and Northwood vs. Los Amigos at 6:15.

At Ocean View today, Loara plays Santa Ana Valley at 5:15 p.m., the winner to face Santa Margarita at 8:15 a.m. Saturday. Foothill plays El Toro at 3:15 p.m., Baldwin Park plays Costa Mesa at 4:15, Brea Olinda plays Laguna Hills at 6:15, San Clemente plays Magnolia at 7:15 and Ocean View meets Estancia at 9:15.

At the Warrior Center, where two courts are available, the Northwood girls’ team opens at 3:30 p.m. today against Marina, Brethren Christian plays Ocean View at 4:30; Long Beach Wilson plays Woodbridge and Palos Verdes Peninsula plays Mater Dei, both at 6:30; and Long Beach Poly plays San Clemente and Irvine meets Redondo Union, both at 7:30 p.m.
