Man Wanted in ATM Holdups Surrenders

A 34-year-old man was arrested Sunday after walking into the Oxnard Police Station and telling officers that he committed an armed robbery Saturday at an automated teller machine in Port Hueneme, authorities said.

Raymond Martinez of Oxnard was jailed on suspicion of robbing a man at knifepoint about 2:40 p.m. at Santa Barbara Bank & Trust at 695 W. Channel Islands Blvd., Oxnard Police Officer Hector Balderrama said.

The victim, an Oxnard man in his 70s, gave the robber a small amount of cash.

Martinez also was being held on suspicion of attempted armed robbery at a teller machine in Oxnard the same day, although he did not admit involvement in that incident.

Police said an unidentified woman, who had withdrawn money from Bank of America at 2475 Saviers Road, was approached from behind by a man armed with a gun. The incident occurred about 10 minutes before the Port Hueneme holdup, about a mile away.

The man pushed the woman against her car and demanded cash but fled when she said she had no money, police said.

A man was seen driving away from both crime scenes in a green vehicle, and police said that Martinez drives a green 1990 Acura.
