City Section Honors Players of the Year

Tommy Johnson of Crenshaw High was named City Section boys’ basketball player of the year and Harbor City Narbonne teammates Ebony Hoffman and Loree Moore were named girls’ co-players of the year.

Johnson, a senior forward, averaged 23 points a game and led the Cougars to the City championship game, in which they lost to Westchester.

Hoffman, a senior forward who averaged 14 points, and Moore, a junior guard who averaged 12, helped Narbonne win the City and Division I state titles.

The boys’ All-City team, selected by a panel of sportswriters: Jason Breland and Brandon Heath of Westchester, Craig Smith and Jason Morrissette of Fairfax, Tyrone Riley of Jordan, Gregg Guenther of Woodland Hills Taft, Anthony Davis of Reseda Cleveland, Justin Saad-Anthony of Woodland Hills El Camino Real, Kenton Paulino of Fremont and Mario Roberts of Manual Arts.

The girls’ All-City team, selected by a panel of coaches: Lisa Willis and Latasha O’Keith of Narbonne, Kimberly Gipson of Westchester, Shanell Law and Tramaine Parker of Washington, Alexis Weatherspoon of Grant, April Freeney of Palisades, Trilena Amos and Yeisha Bacon of Crenshaw, Ashlee Dunlap of Fairfax, Liz Sun of Chatsworth and Christina Aguinaga of Woodland Hills El Camino Real.

Goalkeeper Ester Regalado and forward Katherine Bjazevich of San Pedro and goalkeeper Lauren Carter and defender Meredith Kutzin of Palisades were among the players named to the girls’ All-City soccer team.

Midfielder Shannon DeVos of Chatsworth was player of the year. Other All-City players: forward Jennifer Bernson of Granada Hills Kennedy, forward Leila Pate and defender Tricia Arosemna of Chatsworth, forward Angela Veliz of Cleveland, midfielder Maytal Shvartz and sweeper Mimi Shvartz of El Camino Real and midfielder Michelle Vega of Granada Hills.

Rhuben Williams of Eagle Rock, the defending City and state champion in the shotput, will participate in the Pasadena Games Saturday at Robinson Stadium at the Pasadena City College Sports Complex.
