Simi Valley Receives Something Extra From Michael in 3-2 Victory

Diana Michael delivered a run-scoring single in the 10th inning Thursday to give Simi Valley High a 3-2 Marmonte League victory over Newbury Park at Santa Susana Park.

The Pioneers (7-3, 2-1 in league play), ranked No. 8 in the region by The Times, tied the score, 2-2, on a run-scoring double by Jenni Shields in the sixth.

No. 5-ranked Newbury Park (8-2, 2-2) took a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-run homer by Oli Keohohou.

Kolia Ponce drove in Simi Valley’s first run with one of her three singles.

Thousand Oaks 5, Agoura 0--Nicole Angelo (7-1) pitched a three-hitter, struck out 10 and walked one while recording her sixth shutout of the season in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks Community Center.

Jenni Perez and Jenny Cochran each had two hits, an RBI and scored a run for No. 4-ranked Thousand Oaks (7-2-1, 4-0).

Westlake 3, Moorpark 1--Erin Voeltz struck out 15 and the Warriors won a Marmonte League game at Moorpark.

Voeltz (6-2) pitched a three-hitter, allowed one walk and hit a batter.

Katie Reifman hit a run-scoring triple and Angela Funk had three hits for No. 9-ranked Westlake (6-3, 3-1).

Harvard-Westlake 2, Louisville 0--Anna Russell (5-0) pitched a three-hitter, struck out 12 and walked two for the Wolverines in a Mission League opener at Harvard-Westlake.

No. 7-ranked Harvard-Westlake (6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Ronnie Brooks stole second and scored on a throwing error.

Lisa Feigenbaum drove in a run with a two-out single in the sixth.

Kennedy 14, Taft 0--Kristin Cookson and Brianne Cavins each had three hits and two runs batted in for the Golden Cougars a nonleague game at Brand Park.

Erika Navarro (4-0) pitched a four-hitter, struck out three and walked one for Kennedy (9-3).

Reseda 18, Grant 9--Stephanie Yeatts’ three-run home run highlighted a 10-run fifth inning for the Regents in a nonleague game at Reseda.

Yeatts added a run-scoring single in the second inning and finished with four RBIs for Reseda (4-2).

San Fernando 2, Poly 0--Michelle Molina pitched her first no-hitter for the Tigers in a nonleague game at San Fernando.

Molina (3-1), a senior right-hander, struck out four and walked three.

Ariel Galaviz singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Tigers (10-2).

Sylmar 2, Verdugo Hills 0--Casondra Acosta pitched a one-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks for the Spartans in a nonleague game at Sylmar.

Denise Zavala hit a run-scoring single for the Spartans (7-4).

Hoover 3, Canyon 2--Christine Martinez and Daisy Barcena hit run-scoring singles in the fourth inning for the Tornadoes (5-5) in a nonleague victory at Hoover.

Cori Herbert (5-5) of Hoover struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits.

Oak Park 11, L.A. Baptist 3--Dana Porter was four for four and drove in three runs for the Eagles (4-4) in a nonleague victory at L.A. Baptist.

Melissa Johnson (3-1) pitched a six-hitter with six strikeouts.

Jillian Rice had three hits and drove in a run for L.A. Baptist (1-4).
