TENNIS

* Erin Burdette of Ojai defeated Bernadette Bayani of Simi Valley, 6-2, 6-4, on Sunday at Flint Canyon Tennis Club in La Canada-Flintridge to win the second pre-qualifier for the USTA Prudential Securities Circuit women’s challenger event on April 11-16.

Burdette, 16, will advance along with Diane Matias of Gardena, the winner of the first pre-qualifier, to the qualifying portion of the $25,000 Flint Canyon Classic on April 9-10. Four entrants will advance from the qualifying tournament to the field of 32 on April 11.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Anita Siraki of Hoover High set meet records in the girls’ 1,600 and 3,200 meters in the Meet of Champions Distance Carnival at Azusa Pacific on Saturday.

Siraki ran a school record of 4:52.4 in the 1,600 to break the meet record of 4:54.0 set by Jennifer Burris of Ayala in 1997 and move to ninth on the all-time region list.

She clocked a season best of 10:34.9 in the 3,200 to lower the meet record of 10:42.9 set by Kimi Welsh of Yucaipa in 1998.

BASKETBALL

* Gene Myvett of Littlerock scored 31 points to help the Blue defeat the Gold, 84-83, in the Antelope Valley boys’ all-star game Sunday at Antelope Valley College.

Kevin Johnson of Quartz Hill scored 19, making five of 11 three-point shots, and Rebel teammate Jared Corpening had 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Gold, which took a 38-30 halftime lead. Johnson had seven rebounds, three steals and three assists, and Brian Whisler of Paraclete had 11 rebounds.

Myvett made 12 of 21 shots and six of eight free throws. Eric Brown of Palmdale added 20 points, making six of 15 shots and six of 10 free throws, for the Blue. Mike Kennedy of Highland had 15 rebounds and 12 points on six-of-nine shooting.

MOTOR SPORTS

* Drivers from the region did not fare well in the Dodge California 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Sunday at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield.

Lance Hooper, formerly of Palmdale, finished 31st after parking his truck on the 84th lap after the brakes went out. Sean Woodside of Saugus was never a factor, finishing 24th after a collision with Joe Ruttman on lap 239.

Woodside was two laps behind the leaders when Ruttman’s truck spun into his path coming out of the fourth turn.

“We got out of sequence,” Woodside said. “We were changing left tires when everybody else was changing rights, and we werechanging rights when everybody else was changing lefts.”

Hooper also was involved in a collision, but he said the damage to the right side of the truck did not cause the brake failure.

Mike Wallace won the 250-lap event.

* Bill Sedgwick of Acton qualified on the pole for the Coors 200 NASCAR Winston West Series race Saturday night at Mesa Marin Raceway, but a collision on lap 156 left Sedgwick with 21st place.

Sedgwick led 23 laps in the early stages of the race and ran near the front until the collision.

Brendan Gaughan of Las Vegas, who replaced Woodside as driver for Bill McAnally this year, led the final 73 laps en route to his first victory.
