Los Alamitos Players Sweep Sunset League Tennis Titles

John Mano of Los Alamitos defeated teammate George Canete, 6-1, 7-5, to win the Sunset League singles title Monday at Old Ranch Tennis Club.

Los Alamitos also won the doubles title, as Jon Nafarrete and Mike Obradovich swept teammates Phillip Davidson and Jason Wood, 7-5, 6-4.

In Pacific Coast League baseball:

Ocean View 9, Laguna Beach 3--Tim Burda had two hits, including his second home run, and drove in three runs for Ocean View (10-14-2). Derek Barton had three runs batted in and Mike Harris hit a solo home run for the Seahawks.

University 11, Estancia 0 (5, mercy)--Junior second baseman Kevin Conlin hit his sixth and seventh home runs of the season and drove in four runs for University (21-4, 11-0). Sophomore Matt Stone had three doubles and two RBIs for the Trojans.

In the Serra League:

Bellflower St. John Bosco 9, Mater Dei 6--St. John Bosco (17-6, 8-3) scored five in the top of the fifth and held on to clinch the league title. Mike Harris and C.J. Cook hit home runs for the Monarchs (15-10, 5-5), who led, 5-3, going into the fifth.

In Golden West League softball:

Westminster 2, Ocean View 0--Erica Gonzalez hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Katrina Fischer pitched a two-hitter for host Westminster (8-12, 4-6).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 6, Laguna Beach 3--Senior Kelly Baub had two hits and two stolen bases and junior Ferny Valasco had two hits and two RBIs for Costa Mesa (8-11, 5-4), which took sole possession of third place.

Northwood 10, Estancia 0 (5, mercy)--Freshman Teresa Leyden had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs for Northwood (12-2, 9-0). Allison Lewis (12-2) struck out 11 and walked one for the Wolverines.

University 2, Corona del Mar 1--Visiting University (8-16, 6-3) clinched second place when Kelli Watkins scored the winning run from third on a passed ball with one out in the seventh inning.
