Jacqui Goodchild of El Camino Real will remember with fondness her last at-bat on the Woodland Hills campus. She hit a grand slam--her first career home run--in the Conquistadores’ 8-0 City Championship quarterfinal victory over Banning on Thursday.

But she would just as soon forget fielding her last groundball at El Camino Real.

Goodchild, the Conquistadores’ shortstop, played second for the final inning and booted a routine grounder that would have been the final out of the game.

“I think I got a little too excited,” said Goodchild, laughing. “I was thinking that I was going to get the last out of the game.”

Thousand Oaks (22-5-1), which opens the playoffs against Buena on Friday, became only the third team in the Marmonte League’s 24-year history to go undefeated in league play.

“It’s a great accomplishment,” said Coach Gary Walin, whose team had a 12-0 league mark. “The kids ought to be proud.”

Newbury Park was undefeated in league play in 1984 and ’87.
