Silvestre in Driver’s Seat

Outfielder Juan Silvestre of the Lancaster JetHawks continued his torrid hitting on Monday, driving in five runs on four hits in a 10-2 victory over San Bernardino in a California League game.

Silvestre has 49 runs batted in, the most of any minor league player. When Silvestre and third baseman Bo Robinson hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning, John Johnson of Rosamond won $10,000 from the JetHawks and Outback Steakhouse.

Julio Ayala (3-1) went five innings for Lancaster. He gave up six hits and one run while striking out three. Cody Morrison recorded his second save of the season with two innings of one-hit relief.

Catcher Scott Maynard had three hits and one RBI, Robinson drove in another run with a hit and designated hitter Terrmel Sledge went one for three with two runs and an RBI.

The JetHawks (25-14), who have the best record in the Cal League, were off Tuesday. Lancaster, which has won four consecutive games and eight of 10, leads Rancho Cucamonga in the South Division by 3 1/2 games. Visalia (24-15) leads the North Division by 2 1/2 games over Modesto.
