Troy Tops San Clemente in 10th

Lisa Jackson’s single drove in Elaine Kennedy from second base with two outs in the top of the 10th inning Friday to give Troy a 1-0 victory over San Clemente in the first round of the Southern Section Division II softball playoffs.

Kennedy was hit by a pitch with two outs and stole second base before Jackson delivered her clutch hit, lifting Troy (19-7) into the second round. The Warriors will play host to Aliso Niguel on Tuesday.

Troy’s Lindsey Knoff (14-5) pitched a four-hitter and did not walk a batter.

Rose Tirre (14-4) took the loss for San Clemente, which finished 14-14.

In other Division II games:

Aliso Niguel 13, University 0--Jessica Vernaglia had three hits and four RBIs and Kalena Petersen had two hits and three RBIs for the Wolverines (21-7-1).

Kennedy 3, Trabuco Hills 2 (9)--Jennifer McCard drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for Kennedy (21-5). Lorraine Geiger and Andrea Ruiz each had an RBI for Kennedy. Freshman Shelby Hensler singled home the tying run for Trabuco Hills (14-15) in the top of the seventh.

Kennedy will play Tuesday at Valencia against the Vikings, a 3-2 winner over Simi Valley.

Marina 2, La Mirada 0--The Vikings (23-6) will play Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, a 2-0 winner over Rio Mesa.

In Division I:

Fountain Valley 5, Warren 0--Senior Inez Vasquez hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Natalie King (23-7) pitched a three-hitter. The Barons (23-8) will play Canyon Springs, a 4-0 winner over Murrieta Valley.

Long Beach Millikan 1, Santa Ana 0--Stephanie Gregg’s single drove in Elsie Pace to beat Santa Ana (11-12).

Los Alamitos 5, Downey 0--Kim Dillon (10-7) pitched a one-hitter, allowing a leadoff single in the seventh inning. Darcey Brown had two hits, scored once and had three RBIs, including a two-run triple. Amy Cummings and Merissa Hearn each had an RBI for the Griffins, who play Arroyo Grande, a 5-4 winner over Glendale.

Mater Dei 3, Rowland 0--Tia Bollinger pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 for the top-seeded Monarchs (28-1). Bollinger gave up a single to the leadoff batter, then allowed just two walks the rest of the game. Sheila McCorkle tripled and came home on Christina Clark’s single in the bottom of the first inning, and Jessica Young hita two-run home run in the fourth inning. Mater Dei will play Long Beach Millikan (14-15). Rowland finished 15-7.

In Division IV:

Rosary 8, Industry Workman 0--Allison Lantz had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for top-seeded Rosary (22-8), which will play Diamond Ranch or Brawley in the second round. Mallory Anderson (17-5) allowed one hit over six innings. Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 5, Western 0--Audra Ratajczak had the only hit for the Pioneers (17-8). St. Paul will play Lakewood Mayfair, which defeated Rancho Alamitos, 5-3, in nine innings.

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 9, Ocean View 0--The Seahawks (9-18) had only three hits against the No. 2 Wolverines (23-4).

In Division V:

Calvary Chapel 10, San Gabriel Mission 0 (5, mercy)--Junior Stephanie Williams pitched her third perfect game, striking out 11 for Calvary Chapel (15-4). Williams also hit a two-run triple. Erica Greenberg had three hits with three RBIs, and Jackie Beadle had a triple, single and two RBIs. The Eagles will play Lancaster Paraclete, a 9-2 winner over Ontario Christian.

Northwood 5, Covina Western Christian 0--Melissa Ota tripled and scored on an error in the first inning, and Allyson Pizula added a two-run single for the Timberwolves (17-2), who will face Orange Lutheran.

La Salle 4, Whittier Christian 1--The visiting Heralds had three of their four hits in the seventh inning but fell short to end their season at 13-9. Pitcher Jennifer Benavidez singled and scored on a sacrifice fly for the only run.

In Division VI:

Capistrano Valley Christian 12, L.A. Lutheran 1 (5, mercy)--Winning pitcher Lauren Capriotti (13-2) had two hits and two RBIs, and catcher Lindsay Fait had five RBIs. Lynn Andrews scored four runs, and Laurelle Grove scored twice for the Eagles, who will play Liberty Christian.

St. Margaret’s 9, Anza Hamilton 2--The Tartans (10-8) will play Baptist Christian, a 10-1 winner over California Lutheran.

Liberty Christian 24, Riverside California School for the Deaf 1 (4, mercy)--The Minutemen scored 15 runs in the second inning. Tiffany Fernandez had two hits and two RBIs, and Kaite Linke had a triple and three RBIs. Tristan Fernandez had three stolen bases, scored three runs and had two RBIs. Liberty Christian is 16-2.
