Westlake 31, Newbury Park 20--Quarterback Cory Miles’ one-yard sneak on the first play of the fourth quarter snapped a 14-14 deadlock and the host Warriors went on to clinch their second consecutive league title.

Miles, returning after being sidelined by a broken ankle since the second game of the season, completed 17 of 29 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He had two passes intercepted.

Ryan Foltz caught nine passes for 167 yards, including touchdowns of 27 and 18 yards.

Jonathan Contos rushed 30 times for 180 yards, gaining 125 in the second half in 19 carries, for the Warriors (7-2, 5-0), who out-gained Newbury Park (3-6, 2-3), 442 yards to 280.

Westlake Coach Jim Benkert praised Newbury Park’s effort.

“I think Newbury Park played inspired football and forced us to regroup,” Benkert said. “At halftime, we felt we had to establish our running game and they responded.”

Ryan Lombardo completed 16 of 31 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns for Newbury Park. L. Ray Hawkins had seven receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Crawford rushed for 93 yards in 15 carries and his one-yard scoring run tied the game late in the third quarter.
