Talmage Has 32 Points in Lancers’ Win

Jon Talmage did it all for Orange Lutheran in a 38-7 Olympic League victory over Ontario Christian Friday night at Brea Olinda High.

Talmage caught 10 passes for 174 yards, scored four touchdowns and kicked five extra points and a field goal. He caught touchdown passes of 43, two, 23 and 39 yards. His field goal was from 35 yards.

Orange Lutheran improved to 7-2 and a league-leading 4-0. Ontario Christian is 2-7, 0-4.

Orange Lutheran went with an effective quarterback tandem. Junior Jason Taylor had nine completions for 115 yards.

The Lancers’ other quarterback, junior Robby Hobbs, was even more effective, completing 12 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

Taylor and Hobbs have picked up where All-Southern Section quarterback Jason Whieldon (now at Saddleback College) left off, while Talmage has taken the place of Whieldon’s favorite target, Patrick Salyer. Salyer is now at Harvard.

Ryan Cecil picked up 77 yards rushing for Orange Lutheran. Linebacker John Ausmus shined on defense for Orange Lutheran. But the Lancers committed 12 penalties. Ontario Christian quarterback Greg Talen managed only 33 yards passing. Running back Jeremy Jones paced Ontario Christian with 42 yards rushing.

Orange Lutheran’s two-way star, Ausmus, opened the scoring in the first quarter with a three-yard run, representing the only points that Talmage did not accrue.
