Villa Park Protest Is Denied; Foothill Win Stands
The Foothill boys’ water polo team got the news Saturday morning that the Century League title is officially theirs.
After Foothill, ranked sixth in the county, upset No. 2 Villa Park, 9-7, for the title Friday night, Villa Park Coach John Carcich filed a protest over a disputed penalty shot that occurred late in the third quarter.
On Saturday morning the protest went before league principals, who denied it.
The victory gives the Knights the No. 1 playoff berth out of the Century League and could move them into the top four in the Southern Section Division I poll, while dropping the Spartans, who were ranked second in Division I last week.
The Southern Section will announce playoff brackets Monday.
