Oxnard has a chance to finish in a three-way tie for the Pacific View League title, or could enter the Southern Section Division IV playoffs as a fourth-place team.

If Oxnard (3-6, 2-1) beats Channel Islands (3-6, 1-2) and Camarillo (4-5, 2-1) defeats Rio Mesa (1-8, 0-3) tonight, Oxnard and Camarillo would be tied for first with Hueneme (7-2, 3-1), which has clinched a share of the championship.

A vote of league principals would determine the order in which the teams enter the playoffs.

If Oxnard loses, it would fall to the league’s No. 4 spot because Channel Islands would claim the No. 3 spot based on head-to-head competition. Regardless of the order, Hueneme, Camarillo, Oxnard and Channel Islands are all assured playoff berths.

“It’s going to be a good game,” Oxnard quarterback Tim Eglin said. “We’ve had a good week of practice and I feel good about our chances.”

Eglin, a sophomore who led the Yellowjackets’ junior varsity to a league title last season, enjoyed one of his best games last week when he completed eight of 13 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.

He has completed 46 of 107 passes for 613 yards and four touchdowns with eight interceptions this season.

“I wasn’t really ready at first, but once I practiced more, I felt better,” Eglin said. “Seeing myself now from the very first game, I’ve progressed a lot. And so has our team.”

Senior running back Tamar Lee of Hueneme does a bit of everything.

He is the Vikings’ third-leading rusher with 380 yards and three touchdowns in 51 carries and second-leading receiver with 13 catches for an average of 17.5 yards and four touchdowns.

Lee, who also plays cornerback, has one interception, which he returned 50 yards, and he returns punts and kickoffs.

“I don’t want to be known as just a running back,” he said. “It’s better to be able to do a lot of different things.”

Tonight, Lee hopes to help the Vikings (7-2, 3-1) defeat Ventura (8-1, 3-1) in a nonleague game at Hueneme.
