Tran Leads Pacifica Past Ocean View

Kim Tran’s sweep in No. 1 singles was the difference as Pacifica edged Ocean View, 10-8, in the first round of the Southern Section Division IV girls’ tennis playoffs Thursday at Ocean View.

Pacifica, which finished third in the Garden Grove League, plays Saturday at top-seeded Corona del Mar, which had a first-round bye.

In another Division IV match:

Rosary 12, La Verne Bonita 6--Jenna Eyrich and Liz Caballero swept their doubles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the visiting Royals (11-10).

In Division I:

Esperanza 16, Temecula Valley 2--Kelly Six swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 and H.R. Espiritu swept, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, to lead host Esperanza.

In Division II:

Foothill 10, La Crescenta Crescenta Valley 8--Foothill’s Susannah Ragab, Ari Fahrnay and Jenna Colgrove, down in their final singles sets, all rallied to win.

Sunny Hills 10, Canyon 8--Joanna Kao swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, for Sunny Hills (14-5).

Villa Park 15, Corona 3--Lindsey Nelson, at No. 1 singles, and Arti Iyer, in No. 2, swept their sets to help Villa Park (12-6).
