When senior Gary Sonkur of Montclair Prep gained a career-high 403 yards in 20 carries against Malibu on Friday night, he became the first Mountie running back since 1993 to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.

Wilbert Smith rushed for a school-record 2,512 yards in 1993, but Sonkur could top that mark. He has 2,069 yards with the playoffs starting this week.

Sonkur, a three-year starter, has rushed for 4,422 yards and scored 63 touchdowns during his high school career.
