Bray, Eagles Run Through Twin Pines

Share

Banning Twin Pines was good enough to qualify for the playoffs because of its ability to run, but the Bobcats couldn’t outrun Jamie Bray and Capistrano Valley Christian Friday night in a first-round Southern Section Division XIII playoff game at Laguna Beach High.

Bray carried 18 times for 146 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Eagles to a 27-14 victory.

Twin Pines (4-5) was thwarted by three turnovers and 133 yards in penalties.

The penalties put a big dent in the production of Aaron Johnson, who alternated between quarterback and running back and rushed for 299 yards in 32 carries.

Johnson got the Bobcats out of the blocks fast, busting loose for a 51-yard touchdown run, then running in a two-point conversion.

Bray countered for Capistrano Valley Christian (8-3) with a 52-yard touchdown burst. His two-point conversion run tied the score, 8-8.

Bray scored in the second quarter on runs of 18 and six yards to boost the Eagles’ lead to 21-8.

After Johnson brought Twin Pines back with a 16-yard scoring run in the third quarter, Bray came right back with a seven-yard run for a touchdown.
