La Mirada and Meyer Overwhelm Woodbridge

Erik Meyer completed 11 of 15 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns and scored on a one-yard run to lead top-seeded La Mirada to a 52-6 first-round Southern Section Division VI playoff victory over Woodbridge Friday at La Mirada Stadium.

La Mirada gained 550 yards in total offense to overwhelm the Warriors.

La Mirada led, 7-0, at the end of the first quarter and scored 27 points in the second to lead 34-0 at the half. One touchdown came on 90-yard pass from Meyer to Jarrell Shavers.

The Matadors added three more touchdowns in the second half, one on another long pass, this one of 80 yards from Meyer to Shavers.

La Mirada (11-0) will play the winner of tonight’s game between Cypress and Saddleback in the second round.

Woodbridge (4-7) scored with 47 seconds remaining in the game on a one-yard run by Chris Russell.

Russell’s touchdown run was set up by a 24-yard pass from Tim Kregel to Rex Peterson.

Kregel led Woodbridge in passing with 13 completions in 30 attempts for 103 yards. Farhood Rabii lead the Warriors in rushing with 36 yards in eight carries.
