Six Orange County schools will begin play in the girls’ volleyball state tournament Tuesday and St. Margaret’s, in Division V, is the county’s only top-seeded team.

St. Margaret’s will host Escondido Calvin Christian, runner-up in the San Diego Section, in the first round Tuesday at 7 p.m.

In Division I, Mater Dei, which lost to Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in the Southern Section Division I-A final, plays at top-seeded Chula Vista Bonita Vista Tuesday. Bonita Vista defeated Mater Dei in the final of the Del Mar Torrey Pines tournament Oct. 14.

San Clemente, which lost to Long Beach Poly in the Division I-AA final Saturday, plays at Clovis Buchanan, the Central Section Division I champion.

Long Beach Poly, which entered the Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs as the top-ranked team in the state, will play its state tournament opener on the road at Sylmar, the L.A. City Section champion.

The state polls during the season are done by coaches. The state tournament seeding committee is made up of commissioners or representatives from the various sections.

In Division II, La Habra is seeded fourth and will host San Diego Point Loma.

In Division III, Corona del Mar earned a berth after reaching the Southern Section Division III-AA semifinals. Four teams from the division earned berths because the section doesn’t have a Division III-A. The Sea Kings will play at University of San Diego High, the San Diego Section champion.

In Division IV, Whittier Christian hosts L.A. Marymount, the second-seeded team.
