Fire officials last week dedicated a new engine to station No. 32. It’s a special make known as a “squirt” that can spray from 500 to 1,000 gallons of water a minute from an elevated boom.
The new engine will better serve the area, including the Savi Ranch center where there is a heavy concentration of large, low-rise commercial buildings, said Capt. Paul Hunter, public information officer for the Orange County Fire Authority, which serves Yorba Linda.
“If we were to ever have one of those large buildings on fire, we’d be able to raise this elevating boom and apply water where ground-level hoses could not,” he said. The engine is also self-contained, so it can pump its own water, he added.
The engine, valued at more than $200,000, was issued to the Yorba Linda fire station as part of the authority’s regular rotation of equipment, Hunter said.
