Corona del Mar Stops No. 1 San Clemente at Invitational

Artie Dorr scored three goals and Michael March had two as Corona del Mar toppled No. 1 San Clemente, 9-4, in the second round of the Southern California Invitational Friday at Heritage Park.

Corona del Mar (7-2) ranked fifth in the county and No. 1 in Division II, took a 5-2 lead in the third quarter before scoring four goals in the fourth to put it away and advance to today’s semifinals. The Sea Kings, who defeated Davis, the Delta Section defending champion, 11-7, in their first-round game, will play Long Beach Wilson, No. 3 in Division I, at 1:30 p.m. today.

San Clemente, the top-ranked team in Division I, falls to 9-2.

In other tournament games:

Long Beach Wilson 11, No. 4 Foothill 6--Goalie Ian Elliott had eight saves in the loss for Foothill (10-6). The Knights, who defeated San Jose Bellarmine, 6-4, in the first round face San Clemente today in a consolation game at 11:10 a.m.

No. 3 Newport Harbor 13, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 6--The Sailors, No. 5 in Division I, advanced to the quarterfinals with a victory over No. 4 Harvard-Westlake. Newport Harbor, which defeated Carmichael Jesuit, 13-6, in the first round, will play top-seeded Coronado today at 2:40 p.m.

No. 7 Servite 20, Lafayette Acalanes 5--After losing to Los Alamitos in the first round, the Friars (10-3) came back as Vincent Bevins scored eight goals and freshman Adam Hewko had six.

In nonleague water polo:

No. 8 Laguna Beach 9, Santa Margarita 8 (OT)--Michael Roguly scored two goals in overtime for host Laguna Beach (10-5).
