Northridge Goes Distance, Loses to Fullerton

Alexis Cormier of Cal State Northridge had 22 kills and 25 digs, but Cal State Fullerton defeated the Matadors, 15-10, 4-15, 16-14, 4-15, 15-13, in a nonconference women’s volleyball match on Tuesday night at Fullerton.

Cormier had a .345 hitting percentage, but Northridge (10-5) hit only .201 as a team, including .086 in the fifth game.

Jennifer McNees had 16 kills and 20 digs, and Laura Szymanski had 15 kills, 18 digs and a match-high seven blocks for Northridge.

Megan Sabo had 23 kills and 27 digs for Fullerton (6-11), which had a .142 hitting percentage.

Cal Lutheran def. Pomona Pitzer, 15-3, 15-9, 8-15, 15-12--Sally Jahrus had 15 kills and the Regals won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Pomona Pitzer (7-7, 3-4).

Jahrus had 21 digs and Cal Lutheran (11-6, 5-1) outhit the Sagehens, .233 to .137.

The Regals, a game behind LaVerne in the SCIAC standings, had 10 aces.

Pamela Hunnicutt of Cal Lutheran had 13 kills and setter Karri Whitney contributed 16 digs with 32 assists.

Canyons def. Santa Barbara, 11-15, 15-8, 15-4, 15-4--Gina Casillas had 10 kills and four blocks,and the Cougars won a Western State Conference interdivisional match at Canyons.

Sharon Foster had seven kills and 19 digs for Canyons (8-5, 3-2). Heather Cessna added 15 digs.

Moorpark def. West L.A., 15-1, 15-3, 15-10--Kari Van Fleet had nine aces and Carina Nusinov had seven kills for the Raiders in a WSC victory at West L.A.

Santa Monica def. Pierce, 15-12, 8-15, 15-8, 15-12--Summer Arnado had eight kills and 11 digs, and Cathleen Reuter added seven kills for Pierce (5-3, 2-3) in a WSC match at Santa Monica.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Loyola Marymount 2, CS Northridge 1--Shari Nishikawa broke a 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal at the 42:17 mark of the nonconference match at North Campus Stadium.

Kerrie Clavadetscher of Northridge scored on an assist from Melissa Cleal at 36:42 to tie the score, 1-1.

Angela Ichinose scored a little over a minute into the match for Loyola Marymount (7-4-1).

Goalkeeper Jenny Willemse had four saves for Northridge (4-5-5).

Oxnard 3, Hancock 2--Norma Gutierrez scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 64th minute, in a WSC Northern Division game at Oxnard.

Elba Campos had six saves for Oxnard (12-2, 5-2).

Ventura 2, Moorpark 0--Kelly Nash and Jen Graham scored for the Cougars in a WSCgame at Moorpark.

Ventura (13-2-2, 6-1) had 19 shots.

Canyons 2, Bakersfield 1--Clarissa Silva had a goal and an assist in a WSCgame for the Cougars (9-5-2, 5-3) at Canyons.
