Marina High Names Boys’ Soccer Coach

Steve Schofield has been named boys’ soccer coach at Marina High, Athletic Director Paul Renfrow said Tuesday.

Schofield, an assistant last season, replaces Tom Freker, who resigned after two seasons.

* Northwood High has hired Barry Bandaruk, a middle school teacher in Irvine, as its boys’ soccer coach.

VOLLEYBALL

Ashlie Hain of Simi Valley La Reina High has committed to play for UC Irvine, according to her high school coach, Don Hyatt.

Hain, a 5-foot-7 setter, was an All-Southern Section Division IV selection last season for the Regents, ranked No. 2 in Division IV-AA. She played for the Santa Monica Sports Shack club team that won a Davis Festival title in 1998 and was runner-up last season to the Orange County Volleyball Club.
