Hueneme has speed to burn with running backs Leslie Lee, Dwayne Taylor and Tamar Lee, and the Vikings (4-1) are hot, having won four consecutive games and risen to No. 4 in the Southern Section Division IV rankings since an opening loss to Arroyo Grande, ranked seventh in the division.

CHALLENGERS

Camarillo (2-3) has struggled defensively but has an offense that can compete with Hueneme and anyone else, thanks to a sizable line and athletic quarterback Mike Jasper, running back Loren Cerny and receiver Justin Peterson. Oxnard (1-4), with several sophomore starters, has played through a tough preseason and appears to have progressed enough to give Hueneme and Camarillo a game, just as it has every other opponent.

THE REST

Channel Islands has two running backs with nearly 400 yards apiece, Augie Castaneda (391 yards, five touchdowns in 48 carries) and Tommy Menga (78 carries for 363 yards, two touchdowns). Otherwise, the Raiders (1-4) have struggled on offense, and they’ve been worse on defense, allowing an average of nearly 369 yards per game. John Cerda has been a bright spot for Rio Mesa (1-4), rushing for 312 yards in 85 carries, but the Spartans have scored more than seven points in a game only once.
