Eagles Fly Past No. 7 Servite in Water Polo

Nick Nolan scored four goals and Garrett Marquis, Keith Files and Adam Szereneta had two each to help Santa Margarita upset seventh-ranked Servite, 10-7, in the Serra League opener for both schools Wednesday at Servite High.

The Eagles (14-6, 1-0 in league), led by a goal after the first quarter and increased the lead in the second and third quarters to move ahead, 9-6, going into the fourth quarter.

Vincent Bevins and Adam Hewko each scored three goals to account for almost all the Servite scoring.

Servite is 12-5, 0-1.

In the Century League:

No. 2 Villa Park 22, Orange 6--T.J. Matijevich scored seven goals and Charlie Fisher added five as the host Spartans (17-2, 2-0) led, 11-0, after one quarter.

No. 4 Foothill 10, Santa Ana Valley 5--Brian Alexander had five goals and Spencer Dunn added two for the visiting Knights (13-7, 2-0). Miguel Franco made five saves for Santa Ana Valley (11-5, 1-1).

Canyon 17, El Modena 6--Chris Meyer scored five goals and Dustin Lozano had four for the host Comanches (10-4, 1-1). John Anderson made seven saves for El Modena (8-8, 0-2).

In the Empire League:

Cypress 6, Katella 3--Tim Raymond and Daniel Michicoff scored two goals each for the host Centurions (7-3, 2-0). Katella is 6-10, 1-1.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 18, Fullerton 5--Robby Hegel scored six goals and teammate Steve Lopez added five for the host Coyotes (14-3, 1-1), who led, 8-1, after one quarter.

La Habra 11, Sonora 9--Josh Jewitt scored four goals for the host Highlanders (14-7, 2-0), who trailed, 5-4, at halftime. Luigi Riccitelli had six goals for Sonora (1-1 in league).

Troy 13, Sunny Hills 4--Kevan Koskie had four goals and T.C. McClusky and Evan Markstrum had three each for visiting Troy (13-6, 2-0), which led 10-3 after three quarters.

In the Sea View League:

No. 3 Newport Harbor 17, Laguna Hills 2--The Sailors opened the first quarter with 10 goals as seven players scored two goals each for Newport Harbor (11-4, 1-0). Ryan Andrews scored both goals for Laguna Hills.

Irvine 8, Aliso Niguel 6--Billy Swanson had three goals and Michael Shapiro had two for visiting Irvine.

Robert Seeley and Ryan Mock scored two goals each for Aliso Niguel.

In the Sunset League:

No. 10 Esperanza 11, Fountain Valley 5--Brian Rock had four goals, Bernard Steimann had three and goalkeeper Brian Ricci made 20 saves for visiting Esperanza (10-7, 1-1).

No. 10 Edison 15, Huntington Beach 4--Robert Schuberth had five goals and Bryan Hoffman and Cody Tague had four each for visiting Edison (13-5, 2-0). Schuberth, Hoffman and Tague also combined for 16 steals as the Chargers broke open a close game by outscoring Huntington Beach 10-1 in the second half.

In Century League girls’ golf:

No. 2 Villa Park 130, Foothill 161--Priscilla Park and Shelly Raworth each shot three-over-par 39 for the Spartans (11-0, 5-0) at Tustin Ranch. Brittany Smith had a 49 for Foothill (7-9, 2-3).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 115, Huntington Beach 132--Medalist Lauren Koyanagi (35) had a birdie and three pars, shooting four-over 35 for the host Chargers (6-9, 2-4) at David L. Baker. Jody Grahm shot 39 for Huntington Beach (0-5 in league).

In nonleague golf:

No. 4 Aliso Niguel 241, No. 5 Corona del Mar 257--Leisl Hasbrouck shot a combined three-over 74 at Newport Beach Country Club and Aliso Viejo Golf Club to lead the Wolverines (12-1). Taylor McCormack shot an 80 for Corona del Mar (6-4).

In a nine-hole match against St. Margaret’s, Aliso Niguel won, 115-151. Hasbrouck shot one-over 37, Candy Lin shot a 38 and Elizabeth Komatsu shot a 40 to break course and team records for Aliso Niguel (11-1), at Aliso Viejo.

The 115 total broke the course girls’ team record of 118 set earlier this year by Dana Hills. and also broke the school record of 117 recorded this year by the Wolverines at Palos Verdes Country Club.

In nonleague tennis:

No. 4 Woodbridge 13, Villa Park 5--Undefeated Susanna Lingman continued her roll by sweeping at Villa Park. Woodbridge is 13-4.
