Blake Hacker carried 41 times for a school-record 304 yards to lead Corona del Mar to a 56-27 victory over Northwood Thursday night in a Pacific Coast League game at Newport Harbor High.

Hacker surpassed the old school record--276 yards established by Brian Hogan in 1994--on the final play of the third quarter.

Corona del Mar (4-3, 2-0 in league) showed its game plan early with Hacker carrying the ball 14 times for 154 yards in the first quarter, including a 36-yard touchdown run. By halftime, he had 237 yards in 25 carries as the Sea Kings mixed up their offensive blocking schemes.

“We were happy with the changes on the blocking by the offensive line,” said Corona del Mar Coach Dick Freeman.

With Northwood focused on Hacker, Sea King quarterback Joe Barber enjoyed an exceptional passing night, completing eight of nine passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns.

His only errant pass was intercepted by Tim Tidwell.

Barber’s touchdown passes were to Steven Ward (22 yards), Nick Prosser (seven yards) and Matt Moore (21 yards).

Northwood (2-5, 0-2) kept itself in the game with three second-quarter touchdowns, reducing the Sea King lead to 28-21 before Corona del Mar scored on Barber’s pass to Prosser with 19 seconds left in the first half.

Northwood’s touchdowns came on runs of 34 and 56 yards by Andy Meyers and a two-yard run by Dan Tomcheck. Meyers finished the game with 113 yards in nine carries.
