Westlake Rallies and Races Past Woodbridge, 26-14

Junior running backs Jonathan Contos and Kasey O’Brien combined for 322 yards rushing and each scored two touchdowns to lead Westlake Village Westlake to a come-from-behind 26-14 nonleague victory over visiting Woodbridge on Friday.

O’Brien’s 10-yard scoring run late in the third quarter put Westlake ahead, 19-14, for its first lead since scoring on its opening possession. Contos made it 7-0 with a 43-yard run.

Contos carried 15 times for 191 yards but left the game with 5:30 remaining in the third quarter when he suffered an asthma attack after his second scoring run, a 41-yarder.

O’Brien replaced Contos and rushed 15 times for 131 yards and finished the scoring with a 47-yard run with 1:48 to play.

Woodbridge (3-4) scored on a 19-yard run by Will Banks with 1:47 left in the half for a 14-7 lead. Woodbridge had tied the score, 7-7, on a 29-yard pass play from Tim Kagel to Rex Peterson midway through the first quarter. Peterson finished with 11 receptions for 167 yards. Kagel completed 12 of 30 passes for 171 yards with four passes intercepted.

Westlake quarterback Kent Sowell finished 10 of 28 for 136 yards with two interceptions.
