Cormier Helps Northridge Get Off to a Good Start

Alexis Cormier had 16 kills and 16 digs, and the Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team opened the season Tuesday with a 15-13, 15-4, 15-13 victory over UC San Diego at Northridge.
The Matadors outhit the Tritons, .276-.077.
Heather Zall had 15 digs, Jennifer McNees added 10 and Carrissa Gough had four blocks for Northridge.
Diana Camarillo led UC San Diego (5-1) with 10 kills.
MEN’S SOCCER
Cal State Northridge 1, Azusa Pacific 0--Birmingham High graduate Tony Ortega assisted on Charles Mitchell’s goal in the 106th minute to give the Matadors (2-0) a double-overtime victory at Northridge.
Point Loma Nazarene 2, The Master’s 1--Nathan Burr scored in the 77th minute, but the visiting Mustangs (5-1) were unable to overcome the absence of three starters in a nonconference loss.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 4, Cal State Hayward 1--Nicole Imhof assisted on two goals by Alia Khan for the Regals in a nonconference victory at Cal Lutheran.
Goalkeeper Tiffany Kayama had five saves for Cal Lutheran (2-1).
