Cypress Wins Twice in Water Polo

The Cypress women’s water polo team won its first two games in the North-South tournament at Cypress College, scoring a 10-6 victory over American River and an 18-4 victory over College of the Canyons.
Juliette Johnson scored nine goals in the two games. Lindsay Sampson scored eight and Candy Gifford added seven. Cypress (2-0) was never threatened in either contest, taking a 5-0 halftime lead over American River, and leading Canyons, 11-3, at the break.
The tournament continues at 9 a.m. today.
In the Ventura men’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 23, El Camino 1--Kevin Marsh, a sophomore two-meter man from Magnolia High, scored four goals for Golden West. He scored six in a 17-3 victory over Cabrillo in another game Friday.
Golden West plays Citrus at 9:50 a.m. today and Riverside at 12:30 p.m.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Santa Ana 3, Moorpark 0--Robert Fuentes, Ramon Torres and Elias Ferrel scored for host Santa Ana (2-0-2).
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Saddleback 3, Citrus 0--Michelle Davis and Lauren Henderson combined for 22 kills and Kate Wintermeyer had 29 assists as the host Gauchos (1-0) won, 15-2, 15-5, 15-6.
Golden West 3, Jefferson (Mo.) 1--Grace Boyd and Raimi Mitchell each had 12 kills for Golden West (1-0), which won, 6-15, 15-9, 15-8, 15-6.
