Santa Ana Valley 42, Santiago 7--Falcon quarterback James Burgueno completed 11 of 23 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score for Santa Ana Valley at Garden Grove High School.
The Falcons scored 35 points in the second quarter. Burgueno passed for 145 yards and running back Augie Carrillo had eight carries for 82 yards and a touchdown to lead the first-half offensive attack.
A bright spot for Santiago was 140-pound running back Rudy Rodriguez, who had 33 carries for 150 yards and one touchdown.
Santa Ana Valley’s defense sacked Cavalier quarterback Anthony Garcia twice and forced him to fumble twice.
The Falcon special teams also contributed when Maurice Dunning blocked a punt and Robert Hawkins recovered it in the end zone for a commanding 20-0 lead.
