Lee’s 34 Helps Irvine Post a Record Score

Stella Lee shot a two-under-par 34 to earn medalist honors and help propel fifth-ranked Irvine to a team-record score in a 119-160 victory over Northwood Wednesday in nonleague girls’ golf at Oak Creek.

Irvine (1-0) broke its record of 120 set last year.

Lee got off to a quick start, with birdies on four of the first six holes.

In other nonleague girls’ golf:

No. 2 Villa Park 130, No. 7 Dana Hills 137--Megan Schindelbeck shot a career-best 46 to help Villa Park to the victory. Priscilla Park of Villa Park and Carling Cho of Dana Hills tied for first with a five-over 41 at Monarch Beach. Shelly Raworth shot a 43 for the Spartans (2-0). Dana Hills is 0-2.

No. 3 Santa Margarita 132, Long Beach Millikan 152--Megan Mulhaupt and Brenda Progar were co-medalists, both shooting five-over 41 for host Santa Margarita (2-0) at Tijeras Creek.

No. 10 Aliso Niguel 119, Trabuco Hills 157--Led by freshman Leisl Hasbrouck (38) and Sari Erasmus (39), the Wolverines (1-0) shot the lowest nine-hole score in the program’s three-year history.

Newport Harbor 303, Mission Viejo 353--Junior Kelly Hunt earned medalist honors by shooting 94 at Mission Viejo and Santa Ana country clubs. The Sailors are 1-0; Mission Viejo is 0-1.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

No. 4 Troy 18, El Dorado 0--Calina Ciabanu swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for host Troy, which lost only three games in singles.

Bolsa Grande 16, Loara 2--Trang Le and Hanhi Tran swept in doubles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, for host Bolsa Grande (2-0).

Irvine 10, Rosary 8--Freshman Evelen Liaw swept her sets at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, and Tiffany Thair and Cami Jung won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1. Irvine is 1-2.

Katella 18 1/2, Anaheim 2 1/2--Melanie Paquillo and Rosie Ngo swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-2, for visiting Katella (1-2).

Santa Margarita 15, Trabuco Hills 3--Tatiana Steinberg swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Santa Margarita.

In the Cerritos Gahr girls’ volleyball tournament:

Los Alamitos 3, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 2--Sara Kroneberger had 20 kills and Drew Wawrzinsky had 18 to help Los Alamitos win the consolation match, 8-15, 15-11, 15-10, 8-15, 15-13.

In nonleague girls’ volleyball:

Brea Olinda 3, Ontario 0--Carlin Smith had nine kills for the host Wildcats (3-0), who won 15-9, 15-3, 15-2.

Century 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Elizabeth Mendoza had 18 kills for Century (1-0) in a 15-11, 15-7, 15-13 victory. Amy Dabalack had 11 kills for Bolsa Grande (1-2).

Santa Ana 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Codi Bauer had eight kills and Janet Yanez had 11 service aces for host Santa Ana (3-0), which won, 15-4, 15-4, 15-3.

Tustin 3, Orange 0--Elizabeth Smith had 11 kills as the Tillers (1-1) won, 15-1, 15-6, 15-8. Orange is 0-2.

In nonleague boys’ water polo:

No. 3 Villa Park 13, Santa Margarita 7--Charlie Fisher scored six goals and T.J. Matijevich added three for the host Spartans (1-0). Santa Margarita is 1-1.

Brea Olinda 14, Chino Hills Ayala 10--Juniors Chris Becher and Rory Nelson scored five goals apiece for the host Wildcats (1-0).

Cypress 14, Estancia 6--Junior Adam Kaufman and senior Daniel Michicoff scored three goals each for the Centurions (2-1). Cliff Glacey scored two for Estancia (0-1).

Santa Ana Valley 24, Costa Mesa 4--Juan Mendez and Abner Castorena had seven goals each for visiting Santa Ana Valley (4-2).
