Before the season, Coach Rich Wheeler of La Canada High said his team was going to put greater emphasis on the passing attack.

So far the Spartans haven’t needed it.

Running back Chase McKibben rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns in 16 carries and the Spartans finished with 303 yards on the ground in a 41-0 victory over Glendale on Thursday night at Glendale High.

La Canada (2-0) has rushed for 676 yards in two games and McKibben has 275 yards and five touchdowns in 26 carries.

“It’s nice to see true smash-mouth football,” Wheeler said. “It’s really something to see.”

It wasn’t for Glendale (0-2), which fell behind 17-0 in the first quarter. McKibben had an eight-yard touchdown run.

The Dynamiters have been outscored, 81-6, in two games.

Although they gained only 125 yards against La Canada, it was a significant improvement over their opening game when they gained 15 yards.

La Canada was missing four starters because of injuries.

Quarterback Patrick Perrigue ran for 94 yards and a touchdown in six carries for the Spartans.

Perrigue’s touchdown came on an 87-yard draw in the third quarter.
