Mission Viejo Is All Hart While Routing West Covina

Billy Hart passed for 269 yards and four touchdowns to lead Mission Viejo to a 62-27 thrashing of host West Covina Friday night.

Hart completed 17 of 22 passes and was nearly perfect in the first half, going 10 for 12. The incompletions came on a late second-quarter spike to stop the clock and a last-second pass before halftime. He passed for 171 yards and two touchdowns, to tight end Matt Cole and wide receiver Jason Hibbard.

Mission Viejo led, 21-14, then scored 27 unanswered points in the second and third quarters.

Hart drove the Diablos (1-1) 64 yards in seven plays, hitting Hibbard on a post pattern for a 27-yard touchdown and a 28-14 lead 1:35 before halftime.

On West Covina’s next possession, Matt Limon fumbled as the Bulldogs were attempting to run out the clock.

The Diablos recovered the ball at the West Covina 25. Hart hit Ryan Powdrell for 19 yards on the first play from scrimmage. Three plays later, on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, Robbie Dubois banged into the end zone, giving the Diablos a 34-14 halftime lead.

Dubois carried the ball 15 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Mission Viejo amassed 508 yards in total offense.

On Mission Viejo’s second drive of the third quarter, Powdrell powered in from three yards out to extend the lead to 41-14. Powdrell rushed for 74 yards in seven carries.
