The Texas Twister is starting to settle in nicely.

Matt Broussard, a junior quarterback at Moorpark High, is posting strong numbers as he becomes more familiar with the offense.

Broussard, who played for Tom C. Clark High in San Antonio before moving to Moorpark, threw for 290 yards in a 41-14 victory over Channel Islands.

He began the season as a backup to Aaron Garcia but became the starter when Garcia suffered a separated shoulder in the opener at Nordhoff.

“There were a lot of things we threw at him early and he’s starting to make his reads and see the defense a little bit better,” Coach Tim Lins of Moorpark said. “He has a grasp on the history of the game, especially in Texas. It’s kind of nice.”

Broussard has completed 33 of 51 passes for 552 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
