Olson Scores, Irvine Valley Defeats Riverside in Soccer

Nichole Olson scored with 12 minutes left to give Irvine Valley a 2-1 victory over visiting Riverside in Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer Friday.

Jenny Pyle also scored for the Lasers (5-5-1, 2-1), and Amy Wetherbee had the assist on Olson’s goal.

In other conference games:

Cypress 4, Santa Ana 1--Katie Eatherton scored goals in the 10th and 11th minutes of the game for visiting Cypress. Alie Nunez and Tymarie Novak also scored first-half goals for the Chargers.

Ana Medina scored the lone goal for Santa Ana.

Orange Coast 2, Santiago Canyon 0--Katie Ogden and Meredith Lake scored first-half goals for the host Pirates (8-3-1, 3-0). Santiago Canyon is 3-2-1, 1-2 in conference.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Irvine Valley 6, Riverside 0--Lee Berry and Alfred Kanu scored two goals each for visiting Irvine Valley (4-5-2, 1-2), which led 5-0 at halftime. Goaltender Ricky Garcia got a shutout, stopping five shots.

Orange Coast 3, Santiago Canyon 0--Matt Moseley scored two goals and Miguel Ruiz added another for the visiting Pirates (6-1-4, 2-0-1). Nick Adams made five saves for Santiago Canyon (5-3-1, 1-2).

Santa Ana 6, Cypress 0--Visiting Santa Ana (8-0-3, 3-0) extended its unbeaten streak to 60 games (54-0-6). Six players scored for the Dons, who led 3-0 at halftime.

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

Irvine Valley 3, Victor Valley 0--Shannon Llamas had 17 kills and Beth Luden had 10 digs for host Irvine Valley (6-0), which won, 15-8, 15-6, 15-9.

Orange Coast 3, San Diego City College 0--Lauren Wilson had 15 kills for the host Pirates (6-3), who won, 15-5, 15-1, 15-10. San Diego City is 2-5.

In the Cuesta women’s water polo tournament:

Golden West sweeps--The Rustlers (12-0) advanced to today’s semifinal round by defeating Diablo Valley, 11-3, and American River, 20-1. Anna Korobova scored six goals in the two games.
