Clements, Taft Distance Ace, Makes Commitment to UCLA

Daniel Clements of Taft High, runner-up in the boys’ 1,600 and 3,200 meters in the City Section track and field championships last year, has committed to UCLA.

Clements, who won the City cross-country title in November, has career bests of 1:54.5 in the 800, 4:17.59 in the 1,600 and 9:26.80 in the 3,200.

BOXING

* Rolondo Reyes of Oxnard and late replacement Marcos Badillo of Los Angeles fought to a draw in an eight-round lightweight main event Friday night in the first boxing card at the Odyssey in Granada Hills.

Badillo (17-16-1) earned the draw by winning the final two rounds on two of the three judges’ scorecards.

Judge David Denkin scored the fight a 74-74 draw, while Badillo was a 78-74 winner on judge Raul Caiz Jr.’s scorecard.

Judge Ray Corona scored the fight 78-74 for Reyes (7-2-1), giving the seventh round to Reyes and eighth to Badillo. There were no knockdowns.

In other bouts, William Adamyan, an 18-year old Glendale College student, improved to 3-0 with a unanimous decision over Danny Alborin (0-5) of San Jose in a four-round junior welterweight bout. Adamyan won every round on the three judges’ scorecards.

Tony Cox (1-0) of Compton knocked out Shane Harris of Ventura (0-2) in the second round.

Light-heavyweight James Green (2-1-1) of Los Angeles scored a four-round majority decision over Greg Barnes (1-4) of Lancaster.

Juan Gill of Redwood City knocked out Alan Skruel of Sacramento at 2:10 of the first round in a middleweight bout.

William Fitzgerald failed to show for his pro debut, a four-round bout against Sergio De La Torre (4-0 with four knockouts).
