State champions Jamil Smith of Palmdale High and Schquay Brignac of Taft have accepted track scholarship offers from Washington State.

Smith, boys’ state triple jump champion, has bests of 49-10 3/4 in that event and 23-7 1/4 in the long jump. He signed a letter of intent Wednesday after also taking trips to Arizona State and Oregon.

Brignac, state champion and three-time defending City Section champion in the girls’ high jump, committed last week.

She has bests of 5-10 in the high jump, 18-11 1/4 in the long jump and 37-5 3/4 in the triple jump.

BASKETBALL

* An all-star game for Southern Section Division IV and V players will be held June 9 at Crespi High.

The West team, coached by Josh Kendrick of Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian and Dick Dornan of Crespi, will include Andrew Moore, Kingsley Anyanwu and Charlie Shiebler of Crespi, Jason Adams of Oak Park and Chris Saunders of St. Bonaventure.

Tyrone Fuller of Montclair Prep and Eli Essa of Bell-Jeff will coach the East. Their top players include Colin Ward-Henninger of Buckley, Casey Markovic of Bell-Jeff, Derek Jones of Providence and Eric Kaufman of Montclair Prep.

FISHING

* The 29th free youth derby at Apollo Park in Lancaster will be held from 7-10 a.m. on May 5.

Boys and girls can compete in four age groups (5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-15) for prizes.

No license is required, but participants must have own equipment and bait. Only one pole per participant, with a five-fish limit. Information: (661) 259-1750.
