Kennedy’s St. Pierre Ends Skid

Tim St. Pierre is usually effective, but not overpowering. He had extra zip Monday, helping Kennedy High snap a four-game losing streak with a 8-3 victory over Reseda in a Valley Mission League baseball game at Kennedy.

St. Pierre (5-2), a senior right-hander, allowed three hits and struck out 11 in six innings. He entered the contest with only 19 strikeouts in 26 innings.

Kennedy (13-9, 5-2 in league play) scored five runs in the first inning. St. Pierre had a two-run home run for the Cougars, who dropped four games at the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman tournament last week.

Phil Avlas added a solo home run for Kennedy.

In other baseball games:

San Fernando 12, Van Nuys 3--Jess Moreno’s grand slam highlighted a nine-run sixth for the Tigers (18-4, 7-0) in a Valley Mission League game at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park.

Pedro Montero had three hits for San Fernando.

St. John Bosco 5, Crespi 2--Jonathan Oller had an RBI single in the top of the first and Armando Contreras scored on a double steal in the same inning, but the Celts didn’t score again in the second-round game of the St. Paul tournament at Downey High.

Chaminade 10, Hawthorne 0--T.J. Franco tossed a two-hitter and the Eagles (14-3) won a first-round game of the Templeton tournament called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Bobby Paschal had two hits, including a two-run home run for Chaminade.

L.A. Baptist 11, Estancia 1--Andrew Petersen had three hits and allowed one run in five innings for the Knights (14-4) in the first round of the Templeton tournament.

Ryan Rycroft had three hits and Josh Flynn doubled and tripled for L.A. Baptist.

Royal 10, San Clemente 7--Ryan Keys had three hits and three RBIs and Eric Ross had three hits and one RBI for Royal (14-4) in a second-round game of the Corona del Mar tournament.

Moorpark 10, Oakland Skyline 0--Danny Buckley (2-0) allowed five hits, struck out nine and walked zero in the second-round game of the Corona del Mar tournament that was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Charter Oak 14, Newbury Park 11--Joey Faruzzi had three hits and drove in two runs and David Hicks and Doug Webb each had three hits and one RBI for Newbury Park (8-10-1) in a second-round game of the Corona del Mar tournament.

Nick Dziem and Matt Valenzuela each added two hits and one RBI for the Panthers.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Simi Valley 8, Roseville Woodcreek 0--Elizabeth Smith (1-2) threw a three-hitter and struck out eight to help the Pioneers to their second pool play victory of the day in the Righetti tournament in Santa Maria.

Heidi Knabe was four for four with an RBI against Woodcreek.

Teammate Jenni Shields had five hits, four RBIs and scored twice in the two games for Simi Valley (8-6-1).

Chanel Roehner (4-3) threw a no-hitter, struck out six and walked one in a 6-0 victory over Santa Maria St. Joseph.
