Marina Edges Los Alamitos at Big West

Steven Armendariz singled in Jacob Luque in the bottom of the fifth with the eventual winning run to help Marina defeat Los Alamitos, 4-3, in a semifinal of the Big West baseball tournament Tuesday at Windrow Park.

Luque led off the inning with a single, stole second and third and Armendariz drove him home with one out to break a 3-3 tie.

J.J. Valicenti pitched a complete game for Marina (9-9), giving up eight hits, striking out six and walking one. Kevin Rodriguez had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run for the Vikings, who will play Aliso Niguel in the championship game tonight at 7 at Windrow Park.

In the Atascadero tournament:

Ocean View takes two--The Sea Hawks (11-8) reached today’s 3 p.m. championship game against the Paso Robles-Laguna Hills winner by defeating Santa Maria, 10-3, in the semifinal. Ryan Shaw (1-0) earned the win. David Vanderplas (1-2) beat Hilmar, 10-0, in five innings in the first game.

In the Pride of the Coast tournament:

Corona del Mar 2, Century 1 (8)--Wes Hockinson singled home Billy Eagle with no outs and the bases loaded in the eighth to win it for ninth-ranked Corona del Mar (14-4) in a consolation game.

In the San Jose Tournament

Edison 3, Fresno Clovis 2--Joe Mozeleski’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in pinch-runner Chris Cho from second with the winning run after Cory Vanderhook had singled in the tying run for Edison (10-6-1). Sophomore David Huff pitched a seven-hitter for the Chargers, who play Morgan Hill Live Oak today.

Mater Dei 11, Clovis West 2--Anthony Flama and Matt Navarette combined for a one-hitter for Mater Dei (14-2), which is ranked second in the county. Flama (4-0) had 10 strikeouts in six innings. Tim Stewart had a double and three-run home run, while C.J. Cook hit a solo home run. Mater Dei plays Santa Clara Wilcox today.
