Lefty Blaine Right On for Westlake

Justin Blaine pitched a three-hitter and Westlake High solidified its hold on first place in the Marmonte League baseball race with a 3-1 victory over Thousand Oaks on Wednesday at Westlake.

Westlake scored three runs in the third inning and that was enough for Blaine, who allowed a run in the fourth. The junior left-hander struck out eight.

Jake Brin’s two-run triple highlighted the third-inning outburst for the Warriors (17-4-1, 6-1-1 in league play).

Ryan McCarthy and Brandon Nunez each had two hits for Westlake.

Oak Park 4, Carpinteria 1--Evan Williams hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning and the Eagles (8-7-1, 4-3) won a Tri-Valley League game at Carpinteria.

Freshman Garrett Ozar of Oak Park struck out nine and allowed no earned runs in 10 innings.

Lancaster 9, Highland 1--Brian Mitchell pitched a five-hitter and struck out 11 for the Eagles (16-4-1, 9-1) in a Golden League game at Highland.

Ryan Jefferson hit a two-run home run and a run-scoring triple.

Van Nuys 3, Monroe 1--Junior Avila (2-5) pitched a one-hitter, struck out six and walked two for the Wolves (5-15, 4-6) in a Valley Mission League victory at Van Nuys.

Horacio Martinez two hits.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 3, Harvard-Westlake 0--Amanda De La Cerda threw a four-hitter with four strikeouts and the Knights won a Mission League game at Valley College.

Megan Hayes had two hits, including an RBI single, and Cori Blanton had a run-scoring triple for Notre Dame (14-4, 3-0).

Flintridge Sacred Heart 5, Louisville 4--Lacey Smale walked with the bases loaded to force in the winning run in the eighth inning of a Mission League game at Louisville.

Smale hit a two-run home run in the first for the Tologs (9-7, 2-3).

Oaks Christian 2-9, Channel Islands 1-3--Ashlee Freeman struck out 12 and pitched a one-hitter in the first game of a sweep for the Lions (17-2-2) at North Ranch Park.

Elaine Garcia singled, doubled and tripled for Channel Islands in the second game, but Oaks Christian scored six runs in the second.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley 10, Cerro Coso 2--Monique Saldana had two hits, including her fifth home run of the season, and Marcia Ball pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Marauders (26-8-1, 11-2) clinched second place in the Foothill Conference at Antelope Valley.
