No Settlement Reached

Lawyers in Compton Dominguez High boys’ basketball Coach Mack Calvin’s wrongful termination suit against Cal State Dominguez Hills failed to reach a settlement Monday during a three-hour mediation conference in Los Angeles Superior Court.

No further court dates are set before the jury trial that is scheduled to begin Jan. 30, but Laura Lee Gold, the supervising Deputy Atty. Gen. who is representing Dominguez Hills, said a settlement could be reached out of court or through mediation.

Calvin, who is black, claims that he was a victim of harassment and discrimination based on race while he was the coach at Dominguez Hills in the 1996-97season. The school and Athletic Director Ron Prettyman are named as defendants.
