In the Empire League:

No. 10 Loara 57, Cypress 38--Visiting Loara (18-5, 7-0) maintained its two-game lead over second-place El Dorado. Bryce Sheldon had 12 points, Chad Lozano 10 and Chris Moses had nine points for the Saxons.

In the Sea View League:

No. 5 Woodbridge 63, No. 6 Ocean View 56--Derek Wheeler and freshman David Burgess scored 14 of Woodbridge’s 18 fourth-quarter points as the visiting Warriors (19-4) overcame a 37-point effort by Ocean View’s Marques Crane.

Wheeler scored eight points and Burgess all six of his points in the fourth quarter, including four key free throws each. Wheeler finished with 10 points.

Danny Lambert scored a team-high 27 points for Woodbridge, making 10 of 15 shots from the floor. Crane hit four three-pointers and had 11 rebounds. He was 13 of 19 from the free-throw line.

Ocean View (18-6) played without guard Torin Beeler, who is out indefinitely with mononucleosis. Beeler averages 16.3 points and 11.6 rebounds a game.

In a nonleague game:

Tarzana Stoneridge Prep 56, Tarbut V’Torah 35--Geoff Keith scored 12 points and Noam Dashti had 11 points and 10 rebounds as Tarbut V’Torah (18-1) lost its first game of the season.

In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:

Bolsa Grande 32, La Quinta 29--Linda Chau had 16 points and Sandra Villegas grabbed nine rebounds to spark visiting Bolsa Grande (1-22, 1-8) to their first victory. The Matadors held La Quinta (7-14, 3-7) to one point in the second quarter.

In Sunset League boys’ soccer:

Fountain Valley 1, No. 7 Huntington Beach 0--Jason Graney scored with 10 minutes left after a cross from Sean Iliff to give host Fountain Valley (10-4-5, 4-3) its second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent. Goalkeeper Kyle Polak made five saves to get his fourth shutout.

Marina 2, No. 8 Esperanza 1--Marina’s Roy Phillips scored on a header in the 67th minute, breaking a 1-1 tie and lifting the Vikings (12-6-4, 3-4) to the victory.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ water polo:

Corona del Mar 9, University 1--Christina Hewko scored five goals and had four steals to lead the Sea Kings (11-9, 3-1).
