El Dorado was one of the biggest winners Sunday when the Southern Section conducted coin flips to determine the home teams for many of the quarterfinal and second-round girls’ basketball playoff games this week.

The Golden Hawks won a coin flip and will be the home team when they play Ventura, the third-seeded team in Division I-A.

El Dorado defeated Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in the second round, 66-54, and Ventura defeated Huntington Beach, 71-61.

Another winner was Woodbridge, even though the Warriors lost a coin flip and will play their quarterfinal game at Saugus. If Woodbridge wins, and plays in the semifinals against the division’s other undefeated team, top-seeded Ventura Buena, a coin flip will decide the home team for that game. If Woodbridge had played Saugus at home, Woodbridge would be forced to play at Buena in the semifinals. Buena, the top-ranked team in the state, will play at Lancaster Antelope Valley.

In Division I-AAA, second-seeded Esperanza escaped with a 57-54 victory over Etiwanda in the second round, and will be at home against Ontario.

Calvary Chapel, the No. 2 team in Division IV-A, will play at Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart. In Division IV-AA, Orange Lutheran will play host to top-seeded Morro Bay, but that wasn’t dependent on a coin flip--the Lancers won their first-round game on the road.

Top-seeded San Clemente in Division I-AA will be at home against Chino in the second round, as will third-seeded Irvine against Redlands.

Brea Olinda, the No. 1 team in Division II-AA, will play its second-round game at Torrance.

Brethren Christian, which had a wild-card game to get into the first round despite being the top-ranked team in Division V-AA, will play at the Warrior Center in the second round against Lone Pine.

One of the other seeded teams, Troy, will play host to Perris in Division I-A, but it wasn’t determined by coin flip; Perris already has had two home games, and Troy one.
