Will Sheslow, a junior point guard at Chaminade who transferred from Montclair Prep, has quit the team. Sheslow averaged 10.9 points and 5.7 assists as a sophomore at Montclair Prep, but he received limited playing time at Chaminade.

Also leaving the team was senior point guard Erik Johnson, a starter last season who lost playing time to freshman Marcus Everett and sophomore Gerred Link. Johnson will focus on baseball. He has signed with UC Irvine.

The Wolverines, loaded with freshmen and sophomores, used a triangle-and-two defense to contain Notre Dame’s Cody Pearson and Michael Luderer. Pearson picked up three offensive fouls while closely defended by sophomore Marty Matthies.

“We told [Matthies] to go to the bathroom with him, go to the drinking fountain with him and he had to be able to tell us by the end of the first timeout what [Pearson] had for dinner,” Coach Greg Hilliard said.

An overflow crowd attended Saturday night’s City Section nonleague game between Crenshaw and host Sylmar. Crenshaw won, 80-59, but Spartan Coach Bort Escoto was unimpressed.

“I didn’t think they were that good,” Escoto said.

Sylmar got as close as seven points in the fourth quarter, but turnovers led to a blowout.

A night earlier, Sylmar shot 66% in demolishing Monroe, 86-49.

“I have never seen a team shoot that well at any level in my life,” Monroe Coach Don Loperena said.
