Ten Looking for Repeat Performances

Six of the 12 City and Southern Section boys’ basketball finals that will be played in the next three days will feature teams trying to repeat as champions.

Westchester in the City Section and Santa Ana Mater Dei, Compton Dominguez, Bishop Montgomery, Santa Monica Crossroads and Price in the Southern Section are hoping to win consecutive titles.

Finals in three Southern Section divisions will be played tonight at the Pyramid in Long Beach. The remaining seven are Saturday at the Arrowhead Pond.

The City Invitational final is Friday at Southwest L.A. College, the City championship game Saturday at the Forum.

Here is a look at each game:

CITY SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP

* WESTCHESTER (27-1) vs. FREMONT (20-6), Saturday at the Forum, 2 p.m.: Westchester has dominated opponents with one of the deepest rosters in recent City history. Guards Brandon Heath and Hassan Adams make the offense go. Fremont, in the final for the first time since 1996, is led by guard Kenton Paulino and forward Mark Bradford, but the Pathfinders have several players capable of big games.

CITY SECTION INVITATIONAL

* NARBONNE vs. JORDAN, Friday at Southwest L.A. College, 6 p.m.--Beto Delgado led Narbonne over Carson in the semifinal. Jordan’s William Welch had 28 points in a semifinal victory over Eagle Rock.

SOUTHERN SECTION

DIVISION I-AAA

* UPLAND (30-1) vs. MISSION VIEJO CAPISTRANO VALLEY (27-3), Saturday at the Pond, 8:45 p.m.: Kirk Snyder and Sheldon Pace lead Upland, which has lost only to Fresno Clovis West. Pete Dacasas and Jake Franzen lead Capistrano Valley, which beat second-seeded Rialto Eisenhower in the semifinals.

DIVISION I-AA

* EL TORO (27-3) vs. GLENDORA (26-4), Saturday at the Pond, 5:15 p.m.: Kyle Bechler and Mike Mehanna are top players for Glendora, which is seeking its fourth title. El Toro center Matt Green had 20 points in a overtime semifinal victory over Thousand Oaks.

DIVISION I-A

* SANTA ANA MATER DEI (28-2) vs. CORONA CENTENNIAL (28-2), Saturday at the Pond, 7 p.m.: Guard Cedric Bozeman and center Jamal Sampson have led Mater Dei throughout the season and were the key players in a semifinal victory over Claremont. Jamaal Williams is the top player for a Centennial team hungry to knock off the defending champion.

DIVISION II-AA

* COMPTON DOMINGUEZ (26-2) vs. INGLEWOOD (25-5), Saturday at the Pond, 1:45 p.m.: Dominguez center Tyson Chandler, always a presence on defense, has stepped up his offensive game in the playoffs. Inglewood, which beat Santa Margarita in the semifinals, has been waiting for this game all season.

DIVISION II-A

* LAKEWOOD MAYFAIR (26-2) vs. REDONDO UNION (25-5), Saturday at the Pond, noon: This game features two of the top individual talents in the Southland in Stanford-bound Mayfair forward Josh Childress and UCLA-bound guard Dijon Thompson of Redondo Union.

DIVISION III-AA

* TORRANCE BISHOP MONTGOMERY (25-2) vs. COMPTON CENTENNIAL (15-14), tonight at the Pyramid, 7:30 p.m.: Twins Errick and Derrick Craven have been virtually unstoppable for defending division and state champion Bishop Montgomery. Centennial barely got into the playoffs after forfeiting 11 games for using an ineligible player, but the Apaches have rallied to reach the final.

DIVISION IV-AA

* ENCINO CRESPI (22-6) vs. SANTA FE SPRINGS ST. PAUL (18-13), tonight at the Pyramid, 5:45 p.m.: St. Paul began the playoffs as a wild-card team and knocked off Irvine Northwood in the semifinals as Rudy Serna made six three-point shots and four late free throws. Kingsley Anyanwu leads Crespi, which is playing in a final for the first time in the school’s 42-year history.

DIVISION IV-A

* SANTA MONICA CROSSROADS (21-5) vs. SANTA MONICA ST. MONICA (21-7), Saturday at the Pond, 10:15 a.m.: Center Isaiah Fox leads defending champion Crossroads against a St. Monica team led by 6-foot-7 Sean Cole.

DIVISION V-AA

* MALIBU KILPATRICK (26-1) vs. DOWNEY CALVARY CHAPEL (26-4), Saturday at the Pond, 8:30 a.m.: Keilon Fortune is averaging 35 points a game in the playoffs for Kilpatrick. Junior Tim Drisdom scored 28 points and made consecutive three-point shots in the final minute to help Calvary Chapel defeat Hillcrest Christian in the semifinals.

DIVISION V-A

* PRICE (27-3) vs. ANTELOPE VALLEY CHRISTIAN (21-6), today at the Pyramid, 4 p.m.: Defending division and state champion Price is expected to repeat against an Antelope Valley Christian team that beat Orangewood Academy in the semifinals.
