2 Villa Park Players Headed to Air Force

Two Villa Park water polo players will be attending the Air Force Academy, Spartan assistant coach John Kulisich said. Matt Herrera and goalkeeper Jared Jones will join Coach Jeff Erlich, who took over at Air Force in 1999 after 25 years at Villa Park.
Jones recorded 489 saves at Villa Park, the best in school history, and was a second-team Times’ all-county selection. Herrera, who led the Spartans’ defense, was a first-team Century League selection.
BASEBALL
Cal State Fullerton (33-11) moved up to sixth in the Baseball America rankings and to third in the Collegiate Baseball poll Monday. Notre Dame is ranked No. 1 by Baseball America, followed by Louisiana State, Miami, Nebraska, USC, Fullerton, Stanford, Tulane, Rice and East Carolina.
Collegiate Baseball ranked Notre Dame No. 1 followed by LSU, Fullerton, USC, Miami, Stanford, Nebraska, Stetson, Mississippi and Florida State.
BASKETBALL
El Dorado High boys’ basketball Coach Tim Tivenan has resigned after eight seasons, saying he wants to spend more time with his family. Tivenan, 46, compiled a 132-79 record. Assistant coach Ryan Mounce is expected to take over for Tivenan.
* Huntington Beach High boys’ basketball Coach James Dingus has resigned after one season to go into private business, Oiler Athletic Director Dave Van Hoorebeke said. Huntington Beach was 8-18 overall and 0-10 in the Sunset League last season.
